About The Race

The Moloka'i Hoe is a 41-mile open ocean race that launches from Hale O Lono Harbor on Molokai and ends at Duke Kahanamoku Beach in Waikiki, Oahu. Watch as Shell Va'a Men defend their title against crews from Tahiti, Japan, Singapore, Italy, Australia, California and Hawaii.

This year marks the 55th crossing of the Ka 'iwi Channel, which separates the islands of Oahu and Moloka'i. The Ka 'iwi Channel has been touted, at times, as one of the most treacherous spans of ocean in the world.

The Molokai Hoe is considered the world championship of men's long-distance outrigger canoe racing.

The Moloka'i Hoe is responsible for one of Hawaii's and Polynesia's most significant and historic cultural traditions. It is one of the longest running annual team sporting events in Hawaii, second only to football. The Moloka'i Hoe is now a global event honoring outrigger canoe paddlers around the world. This event tests the limits of both physical and mental strength as well as  endurance, courage, determination and teamwork. In addition, paddlers must also battle nature's most extreme elements.
